SOCIAL LISTENING

I selected the company Lyft for this assignment. This company is well know but is always associated with Uber because it came first but Lyft is an overall better company. Their value proposition is "turning miles into minute" this perfectly appeals to both those who want to use Lyft, and those who want to be Lyft providers. This is a ride share or "ride hailing" app that lets the common driver make some extra money and provide transportation for those who need it, for a fairly reasonable price. Fortune Magazine wrote an article about Lyft and Uber and compared the to companies to the tortoise and the hare. They say that Uber is the hare, making brash decisions and hurting itself with distractions. While Lyft, the tortoise, is slow and deliberate but this cautious nature is what keeps Lyft popular even with a competitor as big as Uber. They stay relevant by providing fun and unexpected forms of advertising. People magazine wrote an article about how the singer Demi Lovato and baseball player David Ortiz went undercover as Lyft drivers, creating a fun surprise for existing customers and using these big names bring a lot of attention the the event. Something that also really caught my attention is when Lyft got 5 cars and synchronized their horn, lock tones, and theft alarms to make amazing remixes of 2017 Grammy nominated songs. They parked these cars on the streets of New York and surprised people on the streets with 7 remixes using nothing but car noises. This advertising was a perfect way to catch peoples attention while still relating it to their own brand. If I were the brand manager i would do more campaigns like this to not only show people our product but show them something they've never seen before and appeals to many.
